Capt. MacDonald House is yet another designated building
in Cornwall. It was
built as a farmhouse in 1867 by Capt. Alexander J.
MacDonald who settled there
after his service in the American Army during the
Civil War. He was instrumental in establishing the Roman Catholic Separate
School Board in Cornwall and represented the Board for 16
years. He was also a Major in the military formation
in Cornwall to defend
against the Fenians. The current lot has gone through
little change, even trees
planted by the family in 1867 to celebrate Confederation
still stand. MacDonald family members have continually lived in the house
since it was built.
